The Association of Children’s Welfare Agencies (ACWA) is the state-wide peak body for child welfare agencies and is involved in the recruitment of foster carers. Foster Carers do an amazing job in caring for children and young people who can’t live at home. They have support from Non-Government service providers who case-manage the foster care placement.

Each year ACWA co-ordinates an event to celebrate and acknowledge the important role that foster carers play. Over the next few weeks we will be commencing work with the ACWA Picnic Committee to commence the organisation of the 2017 Picnic.

As a Registered Training Organisation, we offer volunteers access to continued professional development through the opportunity to participate in ACWA/CCWT training courses as a way of thanking you for your contribution.


March start, 7 hours a week, with an increase in hours prior to the event in September (as negotiated).

Job Description

The Association of Children’s Welfare Agencies (ACWA) is the NSW peak body representing non-government agencies delivering services to vulnerable children and young people and their families. Each year ACWA and its members and Family and Community Services staff hold a picnic for foster carers. This position works with the FNSW team and ACWA Foster Carers Picnic committee who organise this event.

Reports to a member of the Fostering NSW Team

Key Responsibilities

Contribute to the organisation of the 2017 Foster Care Week Picnic.
This may include:

  • Attending planning meetings at ACWA or elsewhere
  • Taking minutes and disseminating them
  • Liaising with suppliers
  • Liaising with venue
  • Managing foster carer RSVPs
  • Work within the ACWA communications policy.

Other Responsibilities

  • Liaison with internal and external stakeholders as directed
  • Actively represent and promote ACWA as required
  • Respond to stakeholder queries
  • Contribute to ACWA quality assurance processes
  • Participate in staff meetings relevant to role
  • Contribute to Foster Care Recruitment Project and P&M team tasks and processes
  • Other tasks as required.

Selection Criteria: Qualifications, skills and/or experience required


  • Commitment to social justice in the area of child welfare
  • Ability to work in a team to joint goals
  • Good comprehension and verbal communication skills
  • Sound relationship building skills, including strong written and oral communication skills
  • Problem solving skills, ability to use team consultation and to work under direction
  • Ability to operate effectively in an environment characterised by frequent change, short timeframes and competing demands
  • Transferable IT skills, including proficient use of Microsoft Office suite programs.

Knowledge of foster care or child welfare system an advantage.

Based in ACWA office, Haymarket, Sydney
This position may require some travel to other NSW locations
